Patients, yer rock ‘n roll stethoscopes have probably heard the news by now… Tomorrow night (Feb. 20) The White Stripes will be gracin’ the stage at Studio 6A as the musical guests for Conan O’Brien’s last night as host of NBC’s Late Night. It will be the first time the peppermint twistin’ duo have played live since cancellin’ their 2007 tour after Meg came down with a case of acute anxiety. Back in 2003, the Stripes were on Late Night as the musical guests for a one-week run. To celebrate the return of the Stripes the doctors and nursemaids have put on our lab coats and taken a dip into the asylum vaults to give you patients out there in 115th Dreamland a filthy prescription of some erratic rare sounds from November 16, 2003.
That's right patients, today we have some magic medicine in the form of their rollickin' performance at Electric Lady studios while promotin' their snarlin' fourth LP, Elephant. The Stripes were in top form durin' the nine song set in front of roughly 75 souls. Meg layed down the beat and the aristocratic horsemen of rock provided a full-scale six string air raid of over-driven guitar and his trademark fuzztone howl.
The highlight of the set comes eight songs in when they break into the electric noise blues of "Ball & Biscuit" with a break in between of Hendrix's "Hear My Train A Comin'". God damn patients it's like an overdriven sonic mustache ride for all. The song was slated for the "There's No Home For You Here" vinyl only single, but was scraped because it runs over 9 minutes.
