Karen Dalton 'In My Own Time' (1971)

Folk Lady Sings The Blues

The inspiration for both Dylan & The Band's "Katie s Been Gone" and Nick Cave's "When I First Came To Town"-Greenwich Village folk blues siren Karen Dalton had the kind of voice that could stop you in yer boots.

Bob Dylan wrote in Chronicles: Volume One, "My favorite singer in the place was Karen Dalton... She was a tall white blues singer and guitar player, funky, lanky, and sultry. I'd actually met her before, run across her the previous summer outside Denver in a mountain pass town in a folk club. Karen had a voice like Billie Holiday's and played the guitar like Jimmy Reed and went all the way with it. I sang with her a couple of times."

Today, the doctors and nursemaids here in 115th Dreamland want to prescribe a long lost gem that we like to pull out for that perfect listenin'. Released in 1971, Karen Dalton's In My Own Time is an album that is sure to get yer rock 'n roll stethoscopes attention. Produced by Harvey Brooks and recorded at Albert Grossman's Bearsville, In My Own Time features 10 songs that captures the Oklahoma-bred, New York City-based singer Dalton as the folk priestess of song. Filled with a soulful ache of woozy broken-hearted blues and a voice that recalls a slow freight train comin' down the dusty tracks.

Give 'er a listen patients and let us know what you think.

"She sure can sing the shit out of the blues." - Fred Neil

Thanks Dr.
Never heard of Ms. Dalton before, but this is good - "In a Station" is a really nice tune.
