Here at the asylum our rock ‘n roll stethoscopes have had the fever for the complete spectrum of them searin’ sounds from the Velvet Underground. Good thing because we came across a storm of epic proportions. Back in February 08 a new bootleg LP from that pretty short-lived swingin’ health club and discothèque the Gymnasium surfaced. The set is one of the only recordings from 1967...it was shortly after the Exploding Plastic Inevitable burned out, Nico had left the band and White Light/White Heat was on the verge of being released. After a few listens of this LP the doctors and patients here were pistol whipped by the back alley hazed-out stomp from the Velvets.
The five song set starts with a 'new' VU song called "I'm Not A Young Man Anymore". You get a few standards from the debut, "I'm Waiting For The Man" and "Run Run Run". Plus, it was the debut of the apocalyptic electricity of "Sister Ray". But, the highlight of the set for us here at the asylum is the bootleggers dream, "Guess I'm Falling In Love". ("I've got a fever in my pocket/You know i gotta move/Yeah Babe/I guess I'm falling in love"). Gutter punk Reed leads the charge with his street urchin wail. While Morrison provides a great riff and break. All backed by the Tucker-Cale beat. Patients, when you find the time make sure to DL these tracks. Maybe you will find your very own VU gem?
Any thoughts out there in 115th Dreamland?

Should You DL? Of course, as your Doctor, I advise you to download your daily dosage of MP3s...

This doesn't seem to stay up for long, I've seen it posted elsewhere for about five minutes.
God Edie is a goddess. I'm just reading a bio of her at the moment. Shame all the pics of the Velvets with Warhol seem to include that twat Malanga tho.
loves bless!!
That's fantastic! I feel like it's my birthday. Thank you so much.

That "Guess I'm Falling In Love" was on the "Peel Slowly and See" boxset, so it is nothing new. But the version of "Sister Ray" is primo.
